Spurs don't fit right on me clogs....

Ah Rochdale..its a different climate up there........its a different world up there........ This sticky up bit of suprisingly unvandalised street art works on the principle that the more mobile phones that are operating, the more light bars pop on....I think.....so don't quote  me, but feel free to correct the above statement. If you look behind the sticky uppy thing you can catch a glimpse of what Rochdale is like. Lots of Cash Convertor/Cheque cashing type shops...never a good sign.

It looks like a pop art version of the Black Monolith from 2001. smile
David Johnson: I saw this about 3 years ago and I can't believe that no one has tried to splash graphitti/ set fire to it/ crash a car into it in all that time!!!! Must be Art soothing the savage beasts.....
I'm sure Direct Works are down there every day making sure everything is working properly and will replace the bulbs the minute they go on the blink. Either that or the European money that probably paid for this has already been spent, various departments will shirk responsibility and in two years time some one will drive a stolen Nissan Micra into it.
There is also the small matter of this all being very nice and all that but it cant really distract your eye away from the scenes of dereliction and decay about 20 yards away! Like putting lipstick on a gorilla!
David Johnson: Bit like going around without your undies on, bit of a laugh but dosn't hide the cr*p. Its over 3 years ago since the shiny hoardings went up,"New Rochdale" its the future.......but maybe we'll have to wait a bit. New Shiny hoardings now overcome with fly poster disease....todays dreams , tomorrows nightmares..
I was thinking 2001, all it needs is the modern ape men equivalents..hoodies. What would Cyril Smith think?
David Johnson: Went past Cyril Smiths house, how the hell did they squeeze hin through the front door????? 2001 was probably the last time Rochdales future looked Rosy.
Superb bit of photo-commentary and I love the treatment too. Do you think Eddy would give me the address of the gorilla- sounds tasty! or is that her walking past with the shoulder-bag?!
David Johnson: Think all that time you've spent with sheep has turned you a bit next thing you know Highland cattle and mascara will pop into your thoughts
urban decay meets modern art .is that a streetwalker coming home after a nightshift.
David Johnson: Coat of Gloss over the rust isn't going to hide it for long, I must say that they have pumped a lot of money into the Big central park....
Just right for maypole dancing next spring. richard
David Johnson: They were just getting the Wicker Man ready so made my excuses and left....

Can't beat a bit of 'ancient & modern' David. I'd go for the 'ancient' any day - this is like two seperate worlds living in the same space. Well captured and executed. David.
David Johnson: Some more ancient and modern happening on thursday but its not a deliberate theme at the moment. I prefer refurbished ancient any day.

Give me the old Rochdale anyday - the only place I knew where they did fish and chips in pig fat rather than beef dripping. Disgusting but different. ;o)

Like the photo tho' the little specks of colour set it off a treat. What a weird wired world we live in.
David Johnson: OOooo like the sound of that Pig fat...after my exile in tut Midlands I now have to munch a bag of Pork scritchins to satisfy the beast inside. Yes, some folk, far better educated, or maybe they took far more notice of their education, sat around pondering how to boost the esteem of Rochdale, 'Sculpture, thats whats needed', Town regeneration budget scrapped, th'Art installed. (I,m just guessing, don't quote me....)

This looks so incongruous, as though it has just materialised. I love the contrast between the high tech and the ravaged buildings behind.
Ingrid
David Johnson: It could be a Photoshopped image, I think when they installed this there were genuine plans to regenrate the area around, lots of big hoardings proclaiming the future, I saw them first 3 years ago and nothing has changed.

Lipstick'd pole dancing gorillas! The comments here are almost as good as your photo.
David Johnson: Now I'd pay good money to see that....its probably on Sky Sports 6 press the red button now, as we speak
Lovely capture of an interesting piece of art. (:o)
