Ridge Walker
I thought my tappets were rattling as I trekked up 1600ft into a bone numbing gale, then I saw this guy on the ridge opposite battling with the elements!!!!. On the way to Chew resevoir, where in the middle of nowhere, was a parked helicopter!!!

This a proper cracker David. It just looks so desolate. Genius capture. Was the helicopter doing anything exciting...rescuing someone? Maybe some SAS training?
David Johnson: Just done a search on Wiki as the chopper had a CS- registration...er...appears to be from Portugal.....??????? S'very odd! Oh boy is this area desolate!
I think this must be the ultimate "sense of space" image. Fantastic David. Did you hitch a ride home on the chopper?
David Johnson: Not now that Ive discovered that its registered in Portugal!
Walking in bloody awful weather makes you appreciate the good days... stop fussing and just bring us more shots like this. richard
David Johnson: One of those 'steady' breezes that you leaned into going uphill...headache inducing....not much tonsorial matting left!
Not sure where the Chew reservoir is, but this brought back memories of waliking the Pennine Way at 18. There were some long, lonely slogs, I seem to recall. Great capture.
David Johnson: This must be about 10-15 miles west of the Pennine Way, probably at its most bleakest between Tameside and Kirklees, Ive geotagged it over on flickr.
Excellent. Great control of the light here!
David Johnson: I was initially dissapointed that the blue sky had gone but I think this '2 tone' look suits the bleakness.
Great shot full of simplicity !!! I love it !!! In my likeys ...
David Johnson: Thanks Ann, just thought it summed up what its like walking up here.
great shot David. I keep wondering how different crops might work. On the one hand I like the horizon in the middle and the figure more or less central, but I like it with some of the bottom black cut out too.
David Johnson: Ive got one of 2 people on a ridge further on with a portrait crop, see what you mean but you know me and my old, what I see is what you get mantra!!!!
it is a likey either way!
Brill. Likeyed. Can't even say why I like it, but I really, really do! H.
David Johnson: I'm not one for hidden meanings in images so I wouldn't make a good critic, some things work and somethings head off to the recycle bin! Just like the bleak solitray nature.
This one puts all other 'man against the elements' pictures into perspective. We really are very small! A great shot.
Ingrid
David Johnson: Thanks Ingrid, we were all mad to think about walking up here with an easterly wind peeling your skin back, part of the human condition to rail against the elements sometimes.
Simply cracking image
The composition is absurd! Nice one!
David Johnson: Thanks...I think!
